はじまりましたよ！「寺田克也原寸 中国ツア～日記」！
書き手と撮影は同行しているPIE社長の三芳です。10日間にも及ぶ寺田さんの活躍を、みなさんにもお知らせしないともったいない！と思い連載スタートを宣言しましたが、これを書いている今は夜中の3時です。毎日これをやると死んでしまいそうなので文字少な目でいきます。すいません。

さて、そもそもどうして寺田さんが中国に行くことになったかというと。

Hi, I’m Hiro, president of PIE International. So this is my first diary! I will be taking notes and pictures for this series to let you know what is happening in this tour which will be taking place in China for the next 10 days. How can I not share such an exciting event! I’m so thrilled but right now it’s 3am in the morning. I might pass out doing this everyday so I will try to make things short.

Without further ado, so how did this all happen in the first place?

こちらの『寺田克也原寸』を出版するにあたって、中国の販売会社や書店さんから、「寺田さんは中国でもよく知られていて、尊敬されています。ぜひイベントをやりましょうよ」というお声をいただいたからです。おお、13億人が生活する中国が求めている。中国ではPIEも含めて日本の本の需要はどんどん伸びています。これは確かに仕掛けるタイミングだ、と直感しました。

It was because when we announced that we will be publishing Terada-san’s new book, we were asked from our distributor and bookstores from China that since Terada-san is already very popular and well respected in China, we should do an event together. Right now, in China, not just our books but the demand for Japanese books are increasing drastically as well, and if 13 billion people in China wants Terada-san, why not. Why shouldn’t we. This is definitely the timing, I thought.

 

とはいえ寺田さんは常にお仕事をたくさん抱えていてお忙しい身です。難しいのではないかと思いましたが、この時期ならなんとか都合がつきそうとのことで、お引き受けいただけました。寺田さん本当にありがとうございます！

Having said that, Terada-san is an extremely busy man, I was thinking it might be difficult for us to hold his schedule for 10 days. But fortunately, he accepted our offer and managed to spare his time for us. Thank you so much Terada-san!

 

さて初日は移動日です。成田空港から、中国の南にある広州に向かいます。

Today we are headed for Guangzhou, southern part of China, from Narita airport.

よ～しいくぞ～っと。カメラを向けると寺田さんはもれなく素敵な表情をしてくれます。

Here we go! Terada-san always sends us a wonderful smile.

おっと、ちゃんと保険にも入らないとね。今回、寺田さんのほか、PIEから3名が同行します。

Double checking if we are safely covered by insurance. This time, other than Terada-san, there are 3 of us from PIE.

出国審査、搭乗ゲートに向かいます。結構スムースに入れて時間があったのでみんなビールを飲んでました。

Smoothly passing the passport control and heading for our boarding gate. Luckily, we had enough time to grab ourselves a beer.

搭乗ゲートにて。寺田さん、絵を描き始めました。

At the boarding gate. Terada-san casually starts to draw.

龍のモチーフは中国では吉祥のシンボル。今回のイベントと関係があるかもしれません。

In China a dragon is a symbol (a sign) of good luck. Maybe this is implying something about this tour.

ここまでで約10分。おしゃべりしながら積み重ねられる線から、やがてうっとりするモチーフの姿が浮き出てくることに驚きます。この後搭乗時間になり、飛行機で約5時間。飛行機の中でも絵を描いていたそうです。寺田さんは時間さえあればいつも描いています。寺田さんはそうでもないと否定されますが。

In just 10 minutes, while having a conversation, from the lines Terada-san added and crossed appeared a mesmerizing motif which I was totally amazed. We hopped on board for 5 hours flight. Terada-san was drawing the whole time. Even though he denies it, whenever he has time he draws. This is Terada-san.

無事着きました、中国。寺田さんは中国に来るのは初めてではなく、以前に小説家の夢枕獏さんと来たことがあるそうです。

So here we are! Actually this is not Terada-san’s first time in China. He has visited China before with an author Yumemakura Baku-san.

タクシーの運転手さんが迎えにきてくれました。英語タイトルの『KATSUYA TERADA REAL SIZE』を掲げてくれていましたが、なぜかREATになってます。

A pick-up person holding a welcome board. It was grateful to see him holding a sign with the title of the book “KATSUYA TERADA REAL SIZE”. (But it’s “REAL” not “REAT”, hahaha).

運転手さん、著名な方をたくさん乗せてきたようで、スマホでいろいろな方とのツーショット写真を見せながら運転してくれるのですが、OK！謝謝！危ないから前見て！

It seems like the driver has given a ride to many celebrities in the past and he was showing us pictures he has taken with them while he was driving. But OK! Thanks! We need you to drive safely!

ということで寺田さんももれなくツーショット対象となりました。ホテルに着いた時点でもう夜中なので寝ます！寺田さんは早寝早起きなのです！

明日は中国の販売会社を訪れて、イベント準備します。

Thus Terada-san has become his target for his new collection. We arrived at the hotel at midnight and went straight to bed. Terada-san likes to go early to be and early to rise. Tomorrow we will visit our distributor and get ready for the event.
